A diverse group of ministers from Ferguson just took part in a press conference. This broken situation has needed somebody to stand up and deliver some redemptive, transcendent leadership. I’m not sure what her name is, but these are her words…
“Now I’m going to courageously invite everyone that believes in the power of prayer in this room, this nation and across this world that can hear our voice. So let’s do the one thing that we all believe. We know what we don’t agree on, but there’s a lot of us that believe in the power of prayer. So now I’ll ask you to pray with me as I summon these prayers to God.
Our Father and our God, we first praise You for Your goodness to our city and to our nation, giving us blessings far beyond what we deserve. Yet we know that all is not right with us. We deeply need a moral and spiritual renewal to help us meet the many challenges we now face. Help us to turn to You in repentance and faith. Set our feet on the path of righteousness and peace.
We pray today for our nation’s leaders and our city’s leaders. Give them wisdom to know what is right, and the courage to do it. You have said ‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.’ May this be a new era for both Ferguson and America as we humble ourselves and acknowledge You alone as the Savior alone. You are the only One with the authority, power and the will to turn this situation around.
So show us your mercy, Lord. Grant us Your salvation. Lord, keep this city and this nation under Your care. Guide us in the way of justice and truth. Let Your way be known upon the earth. And we will at last give Your Name the glory, the honor, and praise for doing it. Amen.”
